Wow, how time flies! Already 2008 is over and 2009 is beginning. The year 2008 went by so fast, it seems like a blur. Looking through my journal from this past year, I can say with some happiness and a small amount of pride that I did meet some of my goals I set at the beginning of the year 2008. For instance I did actually lose some weight....30 pounds in fact! And I learned something new....I learned several ballroom dances. Some other goals are still in progress and will continue on through 2009.
How did I end 2008? Not the way I had hoped for, but it was still special. Pastor Abe invited me to attend a baby dedication at the home of a Filipino family. I did not know the baby, nor most of the guests there, but that didn't matter to any of them. They welcomed me and my friend Sandy as though we were family. It was a lovely baby dedication. They even had a program of the service. We sang songs, heard testimonines, and listened as Pastor Abe dedicated the baby to God. Like I said, I did not know this baby nor this family, but listening to Pastor pray over this new life gave me an idea about my own.
It occured to me that as the new year was about to begin, I would like my own prayer of dedication for my life in 2009. I had never done anything like this before, but I thought why not dedicate this year from the very beginning by asking for God's favor and blessing. So I asked Pastor Abe if he would meet me at the chapel on January 1st 2009 to pray over my life and the work I do. We sat under the cross and Pastor asked God to bless my life in 2009. Again, as I sat there listening to him pray, I was so moved by his words that tears streamed down my face. Praying and dedicating my life in 2009 was important to me. I am ready to move forward and I know in my heart that God will honor the blessing that Pastor Abe prayed for me.
